American Legion Post 1738 West Islip, NY

The American Legion Post 1738 is part of the American Legion organization, which was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation's largest veterans service organization, committed to the mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in communities. It strives to advocate patriotism and honor, promote a strong national security, and advocates devotion to service members and veterans.

Membership in the American Legion is open to anyone currently serving the United States or has served during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon/Grenada, Panama, the Gulf War or the War on Terrorism.

The American Legion Post 1738 hall is available for rent. Among the many events the American Legion hosts is an annual Memorial Day Parade to pay homage to all the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve this nation's freedom.

Also, it has a drop-off on site for American flags to be properly retired.

Thanks to the American Legion Post 1738 for sponsoring such a great tribute to the Vietnam Veterans. Truly a wonderful event for the community.
